This song is ministering to me right now.  I hope it encourages your spirit as well.  There is nothing too hard for God!

From Strength To Strength

Last year was a year that came wrapped in challenges and surprises.  Some of them good and some of them I wish I could forget.  Along the way though, I have grown stronger, wiser and that much more grateful, especially for the little things. Little things like watching the sunrise or watching a movie with my dad and son.  In actuality, these are not little things at all but the real substance of life and our most cherished memories.

My Dad (left) and Brother

When My father fell gravely ill the latter part of 2013 I finally understood how precious and fragile our lives really are.  We are all here but by the grace of God.  My dad is doing better now but I am forever changed by his near death experiences and stories.  I am convinced that there are lessons to be learned in everything, even in the painful moments that are hard to get through.  It is because of those moments that we can appreciate happy moments and joyous occasions.  This year I will savor the good times,.... and when bad times come I will take away whatever I can learn from it.

Happy 2014 lovelies and all the best for the new year!

Feelin Blue Never Felt This Good!

I've always had a soft spot for blue especially baby blue so when I came across these gorgeous examples of how magnificent the color can be in a space, of course I just had to share.  I am so inspired, hope they inspire you too.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

There is only one word that describes last week.  Unpredictable.

When my father suddenly became critically ill, I found myself thrown into a world wind of activity and life and death decisions.  Everything was coming at me at warp speed. In the midst of this, my bestie, Pauline who was trying to reach me unsuccessfully by phone sent me a beautiful package in the mail.  (she lives in Florida and I in Atl)

The angel is inscribed "Be strong and courageous for the Lord
your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:4

Amidst all the caios this wonderful package arrived with the most fragrant exotic tees and lovely thoughtful gifts. (most of it not pictured here)  It really touched my heart especially considering what was going on in my life at this time.  A lovely reminder that someone was thinking of me.  Ride or die does not come close to describing this amazing woman. Thank you so much my friend and thank you to everyone else who called or prayed.  God bless you all.

Tales From a Craft-Head - Quick and Easy DIY Organizer

I have a home office and there are always papers and odds and ends that I need easy access to without digging in a drawer.

With that in mind I decided to make a cute organizer to keep those items contained in a way that has a little style to it.  I am a serious craft head so I decided to make my own.

I took a nice and sturdy box and covered it with burlap.
I am not a gal who measures everything so I just guess-timated it all and let my hot glue do the rest.

Once I had covered the box completely on the outside I needed a trim so hmmmmmmmm, what do I use?  I could have used ribbon but decided to use an old belt I no longer wore.  I cut the belt in half and buckled it in the front.  It was not long enough to go all the way around but it did extend down both of the sides and that was good enough for me.

I think it adds an element of surprise and if I must say so this came out rather nicely.  Hope this inspires you to try one of your own.  If you do, let me know how it turns out.

My Hair Journey

A few days ago someone asked me about my decision to go natural and how it started so I told them I would do a post on it so they can get the full story with pics.  Here goes...

Once upon a time (approximately 2 yrs and 4 months ago) I had relaxed hair.   I was happy with it but missed my natural kinky hair which I had kept natural for most of my life. I particularly missed the body and wildness of it.....the Diana Ross-ness of it as I like to put it.

So one day on a whim I cut my relaxed hair off.

It was brave and liberating and scary!  After all, I was so used to longer tresses.  Longer straight tresses.  Now what!

I learned to rock a small fro.....then a bigger one.

I rocked it textured and blown out sometimes.  And then I fell in love with my hair all over again.

I learned how to integrate scarves and other accessories to celebrate the uniqueness of my hair. Most of all I learned to take care of my hair better.  Myself.  Not the salon.

And my hair grew.

and grew.

And hopefully it keeps growing like it did when I was younger.

I look forward to wearing my natural hair gracefully as I grow older.  I will wear it in all of it's curly kinky glory and enjoy every minute of it.

Turner Classic Movies - Hats Off To You!

One of my favorite things to do in this world is watch TCM or Turner Classic Movies.  If you have never watched one of these old classic movies you are missing a real treat!  One of the things I enjoy most about them is the clean content. Yes, ZERO swear words for the most part, great story lines and let's not even talk about the fashion and set design. It is is bananas!  And I mean that in the most fabulous, exquisite kind of way.

Do not quote me on this but as simple as wearing a hat, the women of the 1930's era had something that made these pieces legend.  These women had enough swag to swim in.  Seriously.  I particularly like the scenes where the actress wore a hat because the hats were so creative, stylish and dramatic.  No matter how dramatic though, the lady wearing the hat wore the heck out of that hat and not the other way around.  Gotta love that!  Here are some of my favorite still shots.  Enjoy!
