My Hair Journey

A few days ago someone asked me about my decision to go natural and how it started so I told them I would do a post on it so they can get the full story with pics.  Here goes...

Once upon a time (approximately 2 yrs and 4 months ago) I had relaxed hair.   I was happy with it but missed my natural kinky hair which I had kept natural for most of my life. I particularly missed the body and wildness of it.....the Diana Ross-ness of it as I like to put it.

So one day on a whim I cut my relaxed hair off.

It was brave and liberating and scary!  After all, I was so used to longer tresses.  Longer straight tresses.  Now what!

I learned to rock a small fro.....then a bigger one.

I rocked it textured and blown out sometimes.  And then I fell in love with my hair all over again.

I learned how to integrate scarves and other accessories to celebrate the uniqueness of my hair. Most of all I learned to take care of my hair better.  Myself.  Not the salon.

And my hair grew.

and grew.

And hopefully it keeps growing like it did when I was younger.

I look forward to wearing my natural hair gracefully as I grow older.  I will wear it in all of it's curly kinky glory and enjoy every minute of it.

10 sandals you'll love This Summer

So I have been on the prowl, looking for sandals to add to my wardrobe and I must say I was more than pleasantly surprised at what I found.  I really, really luv the look and comfort of a sandal, they are dressier than flip flops and very often depending on the style, you can wear them with dressier pieces.  The fact that they don't make that aweful slapping noise against my heel like flip flops do....(c'mon you know what I mean).....is a bonus!

Now, are you ready for this?

Easy Breezy Eco Chic Jewelry!

I am passionate about a lot of things in the Arts but I have to say making jewelry from natural materials really gets me going.  My imagination goes into over drive every time I see a seed or a pod.  Friends and family bring me all kinds of different seeds and you'd swear they gave me the Hope diamond by the reaction it gets.  Lol, such is my love for this stuff.  Now having said that, I think I should show you a few of the pieces I designed from said seeds and other natural materials.  I am constantly integrating new ideas and elements into my design so who knows what I will think of next......

Float Like A Butterfly

This week has been a blur for me, I cannot believe its Thursday already. I had an idea to do some butterflies using natural and recycled materials and so I spent most of the day making these little beauties from beach glass and stones from the beach. By the way, these are the new pieces I had mentioned in my previous post yesterday. I think they turned out alright and would make great paper weights.......I welcome any feedback/thoughts you have. I would love to hear from you!

Flower Power

So today I got to experimenting with seeds and pods and off course beach glass, my favorite mediums/materials to create with. It was so much fun. By the end of the day I was quite satisfied with my efforts. Not enough to show you just yet, but with a few tweaks I think I may be on to something. The jewelry shown here are pieces I had made a while back from seeds as well, I liked them so much I decided to explore this a bit more. I will unveil in my next post....fingers crossed.
