So there I was today with this piece of beautiful worn leather that I just couldn't throw away. It was only about the size of a slice of bread so what did I do? Of course, I made something, earrings to be exact. I've attached a pic so you can see but here's how I did this in case you fellow craft-heads want to try this.
1. Once you have the piece of leather, decide what shape you want to go with. In my case I freehand cut the shape and then I used that shape as a template to cut the other from. If you are scared you might mess up, just get a piece of paper, draw your shape of choice, cut it out and viola! you have a template to use.
2. Once I got my leather shapes, I did the same shape again but this time out of jeans material. I left the edges raw and unstitched and trimmed the shape a quarter of an inch or smaller so it fits on top of the other shape with a little leather border showing under.
3. I glued the jeans shape to the leather with regular Aleene's craft glue but Elmers or any white craft glue should work too.
4. Next I got a piece of felt from my craft kit and cut it up into pieces. Its up to you how you do this, just make sure you repeat the same pattern on the other earring for continuity.
5. Now glue the felt to the jeans piece that you had previously glued to the leather.
6. Get a thick needled or ice pick and make a hole where you want to put your earring wire. (See pic for suggested placement)
Now add your earring findings and a bead of your choice and you have just made yourself a pair of snazzy earrings and helped the planet too!
