A Lesson From Shakespeare on being a "Malm"

If there is one thing I learned in life, it is that nothing stays the same. From the sand on the seashore to our waistlines and and relationships, we all change and grow. Every day.  Sometimes for our betterment, sometimes not.

Recently, I had a major change in my life. It was as if I woke up and suddenly I had become a, gulp, "malm."   When did this happen? But more importantly, how?

I searched my face for wrinkles, sags, and bags. You know, the stuff that old age is made of.  I saw nothing in particular that wasn't there before.  Hmmm.  Is it something am giving off subconsciously? Is it my manner, my tone, a look?  Or, is this some nebulous phenomenon that happens to all women at an exact predestined moment in their lives? C'mon! THIS GIRL WANTS TO KNOW.

Don't get me wrong. I know that malm is a term of respect and endearment.  I could be called much worse and I have.  Just not to my face....... On most Days.

The question is, what is it about the "malm" word that gives me the hebbeee geebees. On the surface malm is not a bad word, not really.  But seriously I hate it.

After giving it some thought, this is what I figured out.

Why The Word Malm Is A Soul Crushing Blow To Some Women

A "malm" is officially recognized as grown.  A grown woman is supposed to act grown...do grown things. All the time.

"Malm" is telling me that at a glance you think  I am old or older than you....

"Malm" suggest that I am no longer "cool", or current

"Malm" informs me that I becoming more invisible or less attractive. Every day.

"Malm" makes me think of depends and my teeth soaking in a glass next to my bed

"Malm" says that my boobs are in a race to reach my waist or will be soon

So in a nutshell, "malm" is the signal that I have reached the end of my youth and all the glory that goes with it.

And so, do you see why I hate this word?  Sigh.  As Shakespeare wrote, "rage against the dying of the light".  He probably wrote that the day he became a "sir", so  Shakespeare I feel you.  Thank you. I am not going down without a fight.  I will NOT stop until I am un-malmed. I promise. :)

Age Defying Divas - Weight Loss & Fitness Inspiration

About a week ago, my sister sent this video to me and it totally blew me away.  If there is a fountain of youth, Annette Larkin has taken more than a sip from it.  She looks fabulous!  I was so inspired by her story that 70% of my diet is now raw vegetables, fruits and grains too. I am not 100% raw like she is (hey, baby steps) but the health benefits of my new diet regimen is nothing short of incredible. This is only week one for me and I know there will be meat craving bumps along the way but am up for the challenge.  Bring it on!

Another lady who inspires me is Ernestine Shepard. She is a 74 year old body builder and athlete who currently holds the Guinness book of world records for being the oldest female body builder.  And, for all of us late bloomers, she started her fitness journey in her 50's. Yep, it is NEVER too late.
Ernestine starts her day at 4am in the morning and diligently runs 10 miles...every day.  She is also a fitness instructor, personal trainer and avid marathon competitor.  Whew!....am tired just thinking about all this stuff.  This lady is no joke.  She and Annette are solid proof that you can be healthy and look fierce at any age.  It's up to you though, so go get it!

Gray Hair And Galactic Boots

I have a question for you.  Do you have the chutzpah, the kahunas,......the I don't give a hoot-ness to rock gray hair?   Well, I think I do.  Not because I am all that, although I am not exactly lacking in the self esteem department..... at all.   No, it has nothing to do with that.   I think I can  rock gray hair simply because I actually like this look.  Gray hair if done well is regal, gorgeous and oh so fly!

Now I know most women won't welcome these little silver intruders with open arms.  As a matter of fact, most of us at the first sighting of a few gray strands leave skid marks in the driveway in our haste to get the "Fixer" in the little bottle.  L'oreal, Clairol, Garnier, wehatever our favorite hair color brand is, we fix the gray pronto!

Well, I on the other hand have been proudly cultivating my few gray strands with joyful anticipation.  I can't wait to have enough  to get a little streak or something going on.  Why? Because it's fabulous!  I am so in love with gray hair.....but then again, I come from a genetic pool of creative, stubborn, spirited and nonconformist people so sometimes I can cook up some stuff in my head that even amazes me.

Do you see these galactic boots ( I named them that), well, my sister bought these because she just knew, that if anyone can rock these, she can!  See what I mean?...this is the gene pool I came from.  As for gray hair, here are some beautiful examples of how beautiful and modern this look can be.  To me it is the glorious evidence that I have been blessed by God to live this long, its a silver/platinum crown, and its down right fierce!
